For youth development

Dedicated to Today's Youth

Whether developing skills and encouraging volunteerism through youth programming, welcoming and connecting diverse demographic populations through membership and services, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through collaboration, the Y empowers people in our communities to be healthy.

For healthy living

Focusing on healthy living

Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities. At the Y, it’s not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside.

For social responsibility

Driving social responsibility

The generosity of others is at the core of the Y’s existence as a nonprofit. It is only through the support of our hundreds of thousands of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to support and give back to the communities we engage.

Healthy Kid's Day

Wilderness Trace Family YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®

May 1st Healthy Kids Day aims to help kids exercise minds and bodies.

Harrodsburg, May 1 – On Thursday, May 1, the Wilderness Trace Family YMCA is holding a free event for local Mercer County and Burgin 4th graders, to inspire them to keep their minds and bodies active.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, takes place at Anderson Dean Community Park from 8:30 AM till 2:00 PM and features fun, active play and educational activities, such as ultimate football, firearm safety, and a nutrition relay.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at nearly 1,600 Ys across the country, aims to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer long – a critical out-of-school time for kids’ health. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically. Kids also gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is made possible with the help of our sponsors, Mercer County Community Endowment, Mercer County Cooperative Extension Service, Lake Village Water, and KY-ASAP, along with our Community Partners; Anderson Dean Park, Bluegrass Mental Health, Dairy Queen of Harrodsburg, Ephraim McDowell Hospital, HOSA/Mercer County School, James B. Haggin Hospital, Mercer County Health Department, Mercer County Sheriff Office, TATU/Burgin Independent and our national media partners Sprout and Lazy Town, who are committed to encouraging kids to lead a healthy lifestyle.
